Tinubu Coastal Highway Name Announced by Government
Federal Government renames Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Tinubu while providing updates on major road projects.
The Federal Government has announced that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will now be known as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway.
Minister of Works David Umahi said the decision was made by the ministry to recognise President Bola Tinubu’s role in conceiving the project. According to Umahi, the renaming followed consultations within the ministry.
“That highway is named President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway. By the powers conferred on me as Minister of Works, in consultation with my Permanent Secretary, the Honourable Minister of State, directors and staff of the ministry, we decided to name it after him because of his dream for it,” Umahi said.
The minister stated that Tinubu first conceived the project about 27 years ago while serving as Governor of Lagos State.
“He had that dream about 27 years back as Governor of Lagos State. It is one thing to dream and another thing to have the grace of God to actualise that dream. This is one man that dreams and has the grace and divine mandate to actualise that dream,” he said.
Umahi also provided updates on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, saying construction is progressing across several sections. He said Section One, from Victoria Island to Eleko Village in Lagos State, covers 47.47 kilometres and includes a 25-metre median reserved for a future railway line.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project is also advancing in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, and Ondo states. Umahi said Section Two is about 60 per cent complete, while Sections Three and Four have reached about 30 per cent and 20 per cent completion respectively. Work is also continuing on the 180-kilometre Akwa Ibom section.
The minister added that construction is progressing on the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, the Trans-Sahara Highway, and other legacy infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and supporting economic integration across Nigeria.
