Bala Mohammed Pushes for Arabic Education Recognition
Governor Bala Mohammed urges Nigeria to recognise Arabic education and provide equal opportunities for graduates of Arabic-speaking universities.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has called for the inclusion of Arabic education in Nigeria’s education system to ensure graduates of Arabic-speaking universities receive equal recognition and opportunities.
The governor made the appeal while hosting a delegation of Nigerian students studying at universities in Saudi Arabia during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Bauchi.
The delegation, led by Dr. Shuaibu Idris, Director of the Centre for Sunnah Studies in Africa, said the visit was to thank the governor for his commitment to education and brief him on the centre’s activities, including its support for students from Bauchi studying in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at the meeting, Bala Mohammed expressed concern over the gradual decline of Northern Nigeria’s rich Arabic education tradition. He said the region has maintained strong educational, cultural, and religious links with the Arab world for many generations and stressed the need to preserve that heritage.
The governor said integrating Arabic education into the national curriculum would create equal opportunities for graduates of Arabic-speaking institutions while strengthening Nigeria’s wider education sector.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving the abandoned Arabic College in Alkaleri, describing the project as an important step towards expanding access to quality Arabic education and protecting the region’s educational legacy.
The students thanked the governor for his continued support and encouragement. They pledged to apply the knowledge and experience gained during their studies in Saudi Arabia to promote the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria after completing their education.
