Badejo-Okunsanya Elected NBA President
Oyinkansola Badejo Okunsanya wins the NBA presidential election, becoming the Nigerian Bar Association’s second female president.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Oyinkansola Badejo Okunsanya has been elected as the new President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
With her victory, Badejo Okunsanya becomes the second female president of the association, following Priscilla Kuye, who previously held the office.
According to the results displayed on the NBA’s live election portal, Badejo Okunsanya defeated her closest rivals after securing the highest number of votes. Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, finished second with 7,934 votes, while Aare Muyiwa Akinboro, SAN, came third with 5,855 votes.
The result is expected to be formally announced at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja on Sunday, 19 July.
The election followed a disagreement over its timing between the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the outgoing NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN. While Fagbemi called for the election to be postponed, Osigwe maintained that the process should continue as scheduled.
