Facebook Users Worldwide Hit by Major Outage

Facebook users worldwide experienced disruption on Sunday after the social media platform became temporarily unavailable, showing an error message linked to a site issue.

Checks at around 9:30 a.m. showed that attempts to access Facebook through the desktop website displayed the message: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”

The outage appeared to affect users across different parts of the world, with thousands reporting difficulties accessing their accounts. Data from outage tracking platform DownDetector showed a sharp rise in complaints, with more than 3,000 reports recorded shortly after the problem began.

Many users turned to other online platforms to share their experiences and confirm that they were also facing problems with Facebook access.

While the desktop version of Facebook was mostly unavailable, some users said the Facebook mobile app continued working normally.

The disruption also affected Instagram, another platform owned by Meta. Users reported that Instagram was not refreshing to show new posts, while DownDetector recorded a rise in complaints from people experiencing issues with the photo and video-sharing service.

The cause of the outage was not immediately clear, and Meta had not released an official explanation at the time of reporting.

Facebook and Instagram remain among the world’s biggest social media platforms, connecting billions of users for communication, content sharing, business promotion and digital commerce.

Further updates are expected as Meta works to resolve the disruption and restore normal access for affected users.
