Mbappe Wins Golden Boot as Spain Lift World Cup

Kylian Mbappe was confirmed as the Golden Boot winner at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final in New Jersey on Sunday.

Spain secured their second World Cup title thanks to a Ferran Torres goal in the second half of extra time, ending Argentina’s hopes of retaining the trophy.

The result also settled the race for the tournament’s top scorer. Lionel Messi was unable to add to his tally of eight goals during the final, allowing Mbappe to finish as the competition’s leading marksman with 10 goals.

The France captain reached the milestone after scoring twice in his side’s third-place play-off victory over England, taking his tournament total beyond Messi’s.

The achievement makes Kylian Mbappe the first player in history to win the Golden Boot at two FIFA World Cups. He previously claimed the award at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after finishing as the tournament’s highest scorer.

Mbappe’s latest success adds another landmark to his international career, further strengthening his reputation as one of the game’s most prolific forwards.

While Spain celebrated lifting the World Cup trophy, Mbappe ended the tournament with individual honours after another outstanding goalscoring campaign.
