Unai Simon Wins World Cup Golden Glove

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon has won the Golden Glove award at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after playing a key role in his country’s successful title-winning campaign.

Simon produced a series of outstanding performances as Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final at the New York/New Jersey Stadium on Sunday. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to secure Spain’s second World Cup title.

The Spanish goalkeeper enjoyed an exceptional tournament, keeping seven clean sheets while conceding just one goal throughout the competition.

The Golden Glove is awarded to the tournament’s best goalkeeper based on overall performance rather than clean sheets alone. Judges also consider factors such as the number of saves, consistency, leadership and overall impact during the competition.

Simon’s commanding displays throughout the tournament helped Spain maintain one of the strongest defensive records on their way to lifting the trophy.

Previously known as the Yashin Award, the prize has been presented at every FIFA World Cup since 1994 to recognise the competition’s outstanding goalkeeper.

Winning the World Cup Golden Glove adds another major honour to Simon’s career and reflects his importance in Spain’s memorable triumph on football’s biggest stage.
