EFCC Clears Immigration Chief Kemi Nandap Over Visa Probe
EFCC says Kemi Nandap is not under investigation as visa fraud inquiries focus on immigration officers.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap is not involved in its ongoing visa fraud investigation.
The anti-graft agency made the clarification on Tuesday following reports linking Nandap to alleged visa racketeering. The EFCC said the claims were inaccurate and confirmed that its investigation remains focused on some immigration officers accused of alleged visa fraud.
In a statement issued by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC said, “The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG.”
The agency explained that criminal cases involving some immigration officers are already before the Federal High Court. It added that further investigations are continuing and could lead to additional prosecutions if more officers are found connected to alleged fraudulent activities.
The EFCC stressed that the current visa fraud probe does not involve the Immigration Comptroller-General. It also encouraged media organisations to confirm information directly with the commission before publishing reports about its activities.
“The media is enjoined to always seek clarifications on the activities of the EFCC to avoid misrepresentation of facts,” the statement added.
The clarification comes as the EFCC continues efforts to address alleged misconduct within the immigration system. The commission said its focus remains on investigating individuals accused of wrongdoing while ensuring that due process guides the process.
The EFCC investigation is expected to continue as authorities examine more allegations and determine whether further charges should be filed against other immigration personnel.
