GTCO Tops Banking Stocks with ₦220bn in Investor Transactions in H1

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) reinforced its position as one of the Nigerian Exchange’s (NGX) most actively traded banking stocks in the first half of 2026, as investors exchanged shares worth more than ₦220.35 billion between January and June. This performance reflects sustained confidence in the financial services giant and its strong market appeal.

A review of GTCO’s trading activity shows the bank recorded a cumulative 267,219 deals, with 2.27 billion shares traded during the six months. These transactions generated a total market value of ₦220.35 billion, underscoring the stock’s robust liquidity and consistent investor demand on the Exchange.

Trading opened the year on a solid note. In January, investors executed 61,957 deals involving 571.79 million shares, with transactions valued at ₦17.0 billion. Although trading volumes eased in February, investor appetite remained strong as 170.48 million shares changed hands in 15,922 deals, generating ₦18.06 billion in traded value.

Investor participation strengthened in March, with trading value climbing to ₦53.31 billion on the back of 473.09 million shares traded across 33,639 deals. April emerged as GTCO’s strongest month during the period, recording 56,118 dealsthe highest monthly deal count of the first half—with 440.94 million shares changing hands and transactions worth ₦56.71 billion.

While activity moderated in May and June, GTCO continued to witness healthy investor participation. In May, 329.57 million shares were traded through 43,478 deals, amounting to ₦47.40 billion in value. June closed with 56,105 deals involving 288.14 million shares worth ₦27.87 billion, highlighting the stock’s resilience and ability to sustain high market activity amid softer trading conditions.

The six-month trading pattern underscores GTCO’s enduring appeal, with the stock maintaining robust liquidity and consistent investor interest. The persistently high trading activity points to strong market confidence in the bank, making GTCO a focal point of investor activity on the NGX during the first half of 2026.
