Anderson Joins Manchester City In Record Transfer

Manchester City have completed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest on a five-year contract, with the England midfielder declaring his new club the “kings of Manchester”.

The Elliot Anderson transfer was reportedly worth £116 million ($154 million), making it one of the biggest deals of the summer. City confirmed the agreement on Thursday after finalising the move following Anderson’s return from the World Cup.

The 23-year-old said he was delighted to join one of the world’s leading clubs and is eager to compete for major honours.

“I’m over the moon. I can’t wait to play for this club. It’s a club built to win trophies and compete at the very top of the game. That is exciting for any footballer,” Anderson said.

Looking ahead to the Manchester derby, he added: “It’s one of the biggest derbies in the world and for as long as I’ve known Manchester, City have been the kings of Manchester. It’ll be a great fixture and I can’t wait to be involved in something like that.”

The Elliot Anderson transfer follows an impressive spell at Nottingham Forest, where he made 92 appearances after joining from Newcastle United in a £35 million move two years ago. Before that, he progressed through Newcastle’s academy and featured 55 times for his boyhood club.

Anderson also earned his first England call-up last season and became a regular under Thomas Tuchel, helping the national team finish third at the World Cup.

Manchester City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, described Anderson as one of the brightest young midfielders in world football and expressed confidence that he would continue to develop at the Etihad Stadium.

The midfielder is expected to join Enzo Maresca’s squad for pre-season training next month as City prepare for another campaign challenging for domestic and European honours.
