Kano Police Recover ₦59.2m Stolen Solar Inverters
Kano Police recovered suspected stolen solar inverters worth ₦59.2 million and arrested four suspects in separate theft and robbery investigations.
The Kano State Police Command has recovered 160 suspected stolen solar inverters valued at ₦59.2 million and arrested four suspects in separate operations linked to alleged theft and armed robbery. The operations also involved the theft of fuel dispensing machines worth ₦10.2 million.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the successes were recorded within 48 hours through intelligence-led operations carried out by the Sharada Police Division and the Special Intervention Squad.
The statement said detectives from the Sharada Police Division acted on credible intelligence on 29 July after receiving information that a 43-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Isah, was offering large quantities of solar inverters for sale at unusually low prices. Officers arrested the suspect and later recovered 160 units of 6.5KW/48V solar inverters from an uncompleted building at Haye Quarters, along the Western Bypass in Kano.
The police said the recovered items are believed to have been stolen and appealed to anyone who owns or has lost similar solar inverters to visit the Sharada Police Division for identification and possible recovery. The command added that investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the items and identify other people connected to the case. It said Abdullahi Isah will face prosecution after investigations are completed.
In another operation, the Kano State Police Command arrested Bishir Abubakar, Shamsu Abdullahi and Alhaji Shamsu Lawan over the alleged theft of six fuel dispensing machines from Jajire Filling Station in Aku Village, along Maiduguri Road in Gaya Local Government Area. Police said armed robbers attacked the station on 25 July, tied up the security guards, locked them inside the security room and stole the machines.
Investigators alleged that the suspects admitted buying the stolen machines from Usman Ibrahim of Kaduna State for ₦5.2 million. Police said efforts are continuing to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover the missing equipment.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori praised the officers involved, saying the recoveries reflect the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing. He also urged residents to avoid purchasing goods offered at suspiciously low prices and encouraged them to continue providing credible information to support the fight against crime.
