Osun Govt Tackles APC Over Road Project

The Osun State Government says the APC wrongly used a road built under its own administration to criticise Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Osun State Government has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of spreading misinformation after the opposition allegedly featured a road constructed by the immediate past administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in a newspaper advertorial as evidence of the current administration’s failure.

The government said the road, published on the front page of the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday by the Osun APC, was not only wrongly identified but was also executed during the Oyetola administration.

In a statement issued in Osogbo, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, said the road is located at Mukoro in Ile-Ife, contrary to the APC’s claim that it is situated in Modakeke.

Alimi said the state government had released the GPS coordinates of the road to enable independent verification by members of the public through Google Maps and other digital mapping platforms.

According to him, the road does not form part of any project undertaken by the Adeleke administration, adding that ongoing road projects of the present government in Ife and Modakeke had not even reached the stage of being marked.

“The publication is therefore simply fake news,” the commissioner stated, accusing the APC of attempting to blame the present administration for defects associated with projects executed under its own government.

He maintained that the Adeleke administration had instead been carrying out remedial and corrective works on several infrastructure projects inherited from the previous administration.

The commissioner urged residents of the state and the general public to verify the facts independently rather than rely on what he described as misleading political propaganda.

He added that the government’s decision to provide the exact location of the road was intended to promote transparency and counter misinformation ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
