Vozinha Joins Chilean Giants Colo-Colo

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has completed a move to Colo-Colo, with the Chilean club confirming the signing of the experienced shot-stopper after his impressive performances at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Chilean side announced on Monday that Vozinha had signed a six-month contract, with an option to extend the deal by another year. The 40-year-old completed his medical earlier in the day before finalising the transfer. Chilean media reports suggest Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha could make his debut on August 16 against O’Higgins as Colo-Colo aim to strengthen their position at the top of the Chilean Premier Division.

The veteran goalkeeper became one of the breakout stars of the FIFA World Cup 2026, helping Cape Verde reach the knockout stage in the country’s first-ever appearance at the tournament. His outstanding displays guided the African nation beyond the group phase before a narrow defeat to Argentina in the last 32.

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha also played a crucial role in securing draws against eventual champions Spain and two-time world champions Uruguay, earning widespread praise from football fans around the world.

His popularity soared during the competition, with his Instagram following increasing from about 50,000 to approximately 17.4 million after his standout performance against Spain.

Before completing the move, Colo-Colo received approval for the goalkeeper to wear his famous nickname, Vozinha, on his shirt despite league regulations that initially raised questions over its use. The nickname, which means “little grandmother” in Portuguese, dates back to his childhood after older boys teased him for crying following defeats in street football.

Born Josimar Jose Evore Dias, Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha previously played for Portuguese second-division side Chaves and has also featured for clubs in Angola, Cyprus, Moldova, and Slovakia.
