Several overlapping forces explain these dramatic gains. The 2023 naira float repriced nearly every naira-denominated asset, pushing institutional investors towards equities as one of the few ways to chase positive real returns amid high inflation. Regulatory pressure also played a major role, as the CBN’s bank recapitalisation directive and insurance reforms forced companies into rights issues and private placements, drawing fresh capital into previously overlooked stocks. Finally, genuine business performance mattered too, particularly among export-oriented and dollar-linked firms that benefited from a weaker naira.

Meyer Plc, an industrial goods company, delivered the standout performance of 8,250 percent, with shares climbing from N0.20 to N16.7. The paint manufacturer swung from a loss to a N303.34 million profit in H1 2026, with revenue nearly quintupling to N2.37 billion.
Transcorp, a conglomerate, returned 4,296 percent as shares rose from N0.91 to N40.00. Earnings per share surged from 7.91 kobo to 323 kobo, while profit after tax climbed to N54.37 billion, driven by its power, hospitality and energy divisions.
FTN Cocoa Processors posted a 2,679 percent return, recovering from years of losses to post a N657.66 million profit in H1 2026, supported by a 30-fold revenue surge and foreign exchange gains.
Presco Plc, a palm oil producer, delivered 2,070 percent returns as shares rose from N74.50 to N2,070. Revenue climbed almost ninefold to N198.75 billion, while profit after tax reached N82.27 billion.
UACN returned 1,763 percent, with shares rising from N9.61 to N179. Revenue expanded to N364.97 billion, while earnings per share surged more than 40-fold compared to 2021 levels.
