DSS Arrests Three More Suspects Over University Dean Kidnap
DSS operatives have arrested three more suspects linked to the abduction of Nasarawa State University dean Professor Samuel Okunsebor.
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested three more suspects allegedly linked to the kidnapping of a Nasarawa State University dean.
The DSS arrests took place on Friday night, days after security operatives rescued Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor, dean of agriculture at Nasarawa State University. Gunmen abducted the university don in the early hours of Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at Mile Uku, a border community between Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Areas.
DSS operatives rescued Okunsebor two days after the abduction and arrested two suspects, including a woman, at the time.
A security source said the DSS arrests of three additional suspects took place at a local brothel along the Mararraban Akunza, Lafia-Makurdi highway.
According to the source, “the suspects were identified as 25-year-old Yakubu Abubakar (aka Black/Starboy), of the Doemak tribe in Plateau State; 37-year-old Usman Abubakar Mairiga, and 27-year-old Sale Babauro Abubakar. Mairiga and Abubakar are Hausa and Fulani respectively, the source added.
The source said the three suspects remain in the custody of the DSS State Command as investigations continue. The agency secured a valid detention warrant from a magistrate’s court before holding the suspects, according to the source.
The latest DSS arrests bring the number of suspects taken into custody in connection with the kidnapping operation to five, based on information provided by the security source.
The development comes after the successful rescue of Professor Okunsebor and the earlier arrest of two suspected members of the alleged kidnapping gang.
