Roger Federer loses $52 million as his fortune plunges below billionaire status
Roger Federer’s fortune has fallen below $1 billion after a sharp drop in On Holdings shares erased around $52 million.
Roger Federer ’s billionaire status has taken a hit after On Holdings shares plunged, cutting his estimated fortune by around $52 million.
The Swiss tennis legend owns roughly 3% of On Holdings, the athletic footwear and sportswear company he joined as a co-owner in 2019. Federer also helped develop its “The Roger” sneaker range.
On Holdings shares dropped about 22% on Tuesday after the company reported weaker-than-expected second-quarter sales. The results missed Wall Street forecasts, sending the stock to around $31.48, its lowest point in almost two years.
Forbes valued Federer’s fortune at $1.1 billion in August 2025, helping him achieve billionaire status. Following Tuesday’s share-price fall, Forbes estimated his wealth at about $953 million, leaving him just below the $1 billion mark. His On Holdings stake played a major role in pushing his wealth above that level.
Federer retired from professional tennis in 2022 after a 24-year career. He earned around $131 million in prize money, winning 20 Grand Slam titles and 103 career titles. Endorsement deals with brands including Uniqlo and On Holdings also helped build his fortune.
Federer remains a major investor and partner of On, which also sponsors tennis stars Iga Swiatek and Ben Shelton.
His career success has also been closely linked to his family’s support. Federer met his wife, Mirka Federer, at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and they married in Basel in 2009. They have twin daughters, Myla and Charlene, and twin sons, Leo and Lenny.
During his 2022 Laver Cup retirement speech, Federer thanked his wife, saying:
“My wife has been so supportive… She could have stopped me a long, long time ago, but she didn’t. She kept me going and allowed me to play. It’s amazing. Thank you.”
Mirka played tennis until 2002 before retiring because of a foot injury.
Could Roger Federer billionaire status return as On Holdings recovers?
