Canada Express Entry CEC Draw Invites 1,000 Candidates
Canada invited 1,000 skilled workers through the Canadian Experience Class, with candidates needing a CRS score of at least 523.
Canada’s Express Entry CEC draw invited 1,000 candidates to apply for permanent residence in the latest Canadian Experience Class round.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted the invitation round on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, according to its latest ministerial instructions.
Candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 523 to receive an invitation.
“Number of invitations issued: 1,000,” the notice stated.
IRCC said the first 1,000 eligible foreign nationals in the group ranking qualified for invitations. The draw took place at 10:13:44 UTC on August 18, with a tie-breaking date and time of August 17, 2026, at 22:09:00 UTC.
Explaining the tie-breaking rule, IRCC said: “If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.”
The invitations were issued under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), one of three federal economic immigration programmes managed through Express Entry.
The ministerial instructions, signed in Ottawa by Canada’s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Lena Metlege Diab, stated that invitations could be issued between August 18 and August 19, 2026.
“Invitations may be issued to eligible foreign nationals who rank among the first 1,000 eligible foreign nationals in the group ranking,” the instructions stated.
Canada’s Express Entry system manages permanent residence applications from skilled workers through an online selection process. It covers the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Programme and Federal Skilled Trades Programme.
Candidates create Express Entry profiles and receive CRS points based on factors such as age, education, language ability and work experience, alongside other human-capital characteristics. IRCC then invites the highest-ranked candidates during scheduled draws.
The Canadian Experience Class is designed for skilled workers who already have Canadian work experience and want to obtain permanent residence.
Generally, applicants need at least one year, or 1,560 hours, of skilled Canadian work experience gained within the previous three years. Their occupation must fall within National Occupational Classification TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3.
Language requirements also apply. Candidates in TEER 0 or 1 occupations generally need Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7, while those in TEER 2 or 3 occupations need CLB 5.
Unlike some other economic immigration routes, the CEC has no education requirement and applicants do not need to show settlement funds. They must also intend to live outside Quebec.
The latest Express Entry CEC draw was more selective than an earlier round held on August 5. That draw issued 3,000 invitations and had a CRS cut-off of 516.
By contrast, the August 18 round offered only 1,000 invitations and raised the minimum score to 523, making it one of the more selective CEC rounds recorded in 2026.
By the middle of August, IRCC had issued more than 113,000 invitations through Express Entry, with Canadian Experience Class candidates accounting for a significant share.
Could the higher CRS cut-off make future Canadian Experience Class draws more competitive for applicants?
