NPC Chairman Aminu Wushishi has died about eight months after assuming office, following a reported brief illness.

Dr Aminu Yusuf Talban Wushishi, Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), reportedly died on Friday, 28 August 2026.

News of his death reached Minna, Niger State, around the time of the Jumaat prayer.

His death was confirmed by Barrister Tanko Benji, a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State.

“Aminu is dead. I am saddened and not in a good mood now,” Benji told Blueprint.ng while confirming the development.

Sources close to the family and a senior presidential source also confirmed the death.

Wushishi had spent about eight months as Chairman of the National Population Commission, having assumed office earlier this year.
