Nigeria Police Force Strengthens NPF-NAF Cooperation

The NPF-NAF cooperation between Nigeria’s police and air force is set to deepen through joint training, intelligence sharing and stronger operational support.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu made this known on Wednesday when he received the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Aneke visited the headquarters as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two security agencies as they work to address Nigeria’s changing security challenges.

Disu stressed the importance of personnel welfare, effective command and control, and coordinated security planning, especially ahead of major national events and the 2027 general elections. He also called for stronger measures to protect critical national infrastructure and improve logistics and response capabilities.

The IGP further urged both agencies to review their joint operations regularly so they can identify gaps and improve their effectiveness. Such efforts form an important part of the wider NPF-NAF cooperation aimed at creating a more coordinated response to security threats.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, Aneke praised the long-standing professional relationship between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). He also acknowledged the support provided by the NPF Air Wing to the Nigerian Air Force.

The Chief of the Air Staff called for continued collaboration, particularly in joint operations, intelligence sharing and enhanced air support for police activities.

The meeting also addressed aerial surveillance and reconnaissance, tactical deployment, medical evacuation, joint training and improved operational coordination. These areas are expected to strengthen efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, insurgency and other violent crimes.

The NPF-NAF cooperation also reflects the police and air force’s shared focus on improving their ability to respond to security threats. Better intelligence, air support and coordinated planning could help both institutions make their operations more effective.
