The IGP Disu police insurance payments have reached N2.317 billion for 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, presented the cheques on Thursday in Abuja under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare schemes.

The beneficiaries are families of police officers who died while serving the nation. Their claims cover the 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 insurance policy years.

The payment also includes outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies after earlier settlements had covered only part of the amounts owed.

Speaking during the presentation, IGP Disu said the IGP Disu police insurance payments reflected the Nigeria Police Force’s responsibility to families who lost loved ones while those officers were serving the country.

The payments cover beneficiaries under several welfare and insurance arrangements established to provide financial support to families of police personnel who die in service.

The latest disbursement brings attention to the importance of police welfare and insurance support, particularly for families left behind after officers lose their lives while carrying out their duties.

By presenting the cheques to the affected beneficiaries, the Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its obligation to support the families of deceased personnel through the applicable insurance and welfare schemes.

The inclusion of recovered outstanding balances also provides payments to beneficiaries whose previous insurance settlements did not fully cover their entitlements.

The N2.317 billion disbursement covers 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin across the listed policy years, representing a significant financial commitment to the welfare of police families.

The Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare schemes form part of the support mechanisms available to police personnel and their families.

For families of officers who died in service, the payments provide financial assistance following the loss of their relatives and reflect the Force’s continuing welfare responsibilities.

The IGP Disu police insurance payments also demonstrate the role of insurance arrangements in providing support to police families after officers make the ultimate sacrifice in the course of national service.

The presentation took place in Abuja on Thursday, with the Inspector-General stressing the responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force towards families of officers who lost their lives while serving the nation.

The latest exercise is therefore focused not only on settling outstanding financial obligations but also on reinforcing the commitment to police welfare and family support.

Do you think faster settlement of police insurance claims would further strengthen welfare support for officers and their families?
