Lionel Messi is reportedly close to completing a deal to acquire Spanish second-tier club CD Eldense, according to several reports from Spain.

Messi has reached an agreement in principle to purchase all the shares held by majority owner TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., with an official announcement expected in the coming days, the reports said.

The Colombian investment group took control of Eldense in October 2025. Under the proposed agreement, it would transfer its entire stake in the club to Messi. The transaction still requires approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD) before it can be completed.

The potential acquisition would add to Messi’s growing football ownership portfolio. The former Argentina international recently retired from international duty and acquired fifth-tier Spanish club UE Cornella on 16 April.

Messi is also expected to receive a stake in Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer club where he currently plays, after his playing contract with the team ends.

Eldense is based in Elda, a town with around 55,000 residents in the eastern Spanish province of Alicante.

The club has spent most of its history competing in Spain’s lower divisions. However, increased investment has helped Eldense reach the second tier in three of the past four seasons.

The proposed CD Eldense takeover comes at a difficult moment for the club on the pitch. Eldense dismissed manager Claudio Barragan on Sunday after collecting only two points from their opening four league matches.

That poor start has left the club third from bottom in the second-tier standings.

For Messi, the move would represent another step into football ownership beyond his playing career. His involvement with clubs in Spain and the United States points to an expanding interest in the business side of the sport.

The Eldense deal, however, remains dependent on regulatory approval. Until the CSD gives its consent, the reported agreement between Messi and TH Soluciones Group S.A.S. cannot be fully completed.

Would Messi’s ownership bring the investment and stability needed to lift CD Eldense further in Spanish football?
