Rybakina Becomes New World No. 1 After US Open Triumph
Elena Rybakina claimed the world No. 1 ranking after winning the US Open and ending Aryna Sabalenka’s 99-week reign.
Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina is officially the new World No. 1 after the latest WTA Rankings confirmed her rise above Aryna Sabalenka.
Rybakina needed to reach the US Open semifinals to overtake Sabalenka at the top of the rankings. The 27-year-old went further than required, winning the tournament after defeating two-time defending champion Sabalenka in the final.
The victory gave Rybakina her third Grand Slam title and her first US Open crown. It also ended Sabalenka’s remarkable 99-week run as the world’s top-ranked female player.
With her latest achievement, Rybakina became the 30th different World No. 1 since the computerised WTA Rankings were introduced in 1975. Her rise now headlines a major reshuffle among the leading players.
The updated WTA Top 10 is:
| Rank | Player | Country | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (+1) | Elena Rybakina | Kazakhstan | 9,901 |
| 2 (-1) | Aryna Sabalenka | — | 7,875 |
| 3 | Jessica Pegula | USA | 7,265 |
| 4 | Coco Gauff | USA | 7,244 |
| 5 | Mirra Andreeva | — | 5,743 |
| 6 | Linda Noskova | Czechia | 5,328 |
| 7 (+2) | Elina Svitolina | Ukraine | 4,809 |
| 8 (-1) | Karolina Muchova | Czechia | 4,683 |
| 9 (-1) | Iga Swiatek | Poland | 4,619 |
| 10 (+1) | Marta Kostyuk | Ukraine | 3,980 |
Elina Svitolina climbed two places to seventh despite exiting the US Open in the third round. The Ukrainian moved above Karolina Muchova and Iga Swiatek, who each dropped one position.
Marta Kostyuk also reached a major milestone by entering the Top 10 for the first time. Her run to the round of 16 helped her secure a career-best position. Meanwhile, American Amanda Anisimova, who finished as runner-up last year, fell from 10th to 11th after losing in the third round.
The biggest movement came from Qinwen Zheng of China. The former World No. 4 and reigning Olympic champion returned from injury and produced an impressive run at the US Open. Starting in the qualifiers, Zheng reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Rybakina.
Her performance lifted her 69 places to 52nd in the latest rankings, marking one of the biggest rises of the week.
Several other players inside the Top 100 also reached new career-high positions. They included Sorana Cirstea of Romania at 15th, Czechia’s Sara Bejlek at 28th and Frenchwoman Diane Parry at 30th.
Ukraine also recorded several notable gains, with Oleksanra Oliynykova moving to 41st, Daria Snigur to 42nd and Yuliia Starodubtseva to 43rd. Australia’s Kimberly Birrell climbed to 56th and Taylah Preston to 92nd.
Thailand also had two players reach new career-best rankings, with Lanlana Tararudee moving to 61st and Mananchaya Sawangkaew rising to 88th.
Rybakina’s rise to the World No. 1 position therefore comes at the end of a standout US Open campaign, while Sabalenka begins a new chapter after almost two years at the summit.
