The Nigeria Police academic qualifications review has begun after Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu directed commands and formations to submit details of officers with higher degrees.

The directive, contained in a police wireless message dated 14 September 2026, was marked “Most/Immediate” and issued by the Force Secretary’s Office in Abuja.

It instructed police commands, departments, colleges and training institutions to urgently provide information on serving inspectors and rank-and-file personnel who hold doctorate degrees, master’s degrees or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) certificates.

The requested information was to reach the Force Secretary’s Office by Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

“IGP directs, as a matter of urgency, that you forward a list of inspectors/rank-and-file serving under you who are holders of doctorate degrees, master’s degrees or LLB, in addition to their posting signals, on or before 16/09/2026. I repeat, on or before 16/09/2026. Treat as very important,” the message stated.

The communication was signed by the Nigeria Police Force Secretary’s Office, Abuja, and sent to the AIG in charge of the Department of Training and Development, police colleges, various departments and training institutions, as well as all state commands.

Copies were also sent to the Inspector-General of Police’s office and all Commissioners of Police.

The directive specifically seeks details of serving personnel within the inspector and rank-and-file categories who possess any of the three stated qualifications. Commands are also required to provide the officers’ posting signals alongside their academic credentials.

The request forms part of a formal exercise by the police authorities to identify serving personnel with advanced academic qualifications. The directive does not state why the information is being requested or what further action may follow from the exercise.

Police authorities classified the request as urgent and very important, with 16 September 2026 set as the submission deadline.

The latest instruction therefore requires commands and formations across the country to compile and forward information on officers whose qualifications include doctorates, master’s degrees or LLB certificates, alongside their posting details.
