NCDC Reviews Border Health Measures Over Ebola Outbreak in DRC
Travellers from countries with active or relevant EVD transmission may be required to complete the Health Declaration Form to support surveillance, risk assessment, contact tracing and early detection of suspected cases
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says travellers arriving from countries with active or relevant Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) transmission may be required to complete Health Declaration Forms as part of enhanced surveillance measures.
The NCDC made this known in a statement on Tuesday, saying the advisory followed the evolving epidemiological situation surrounding the ongoing EVD outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The agency said Nigeria was reviewing its public health measures based on dynamic risk assessments and consultations with relevant health authorities and experts.
According to the NCDC, travellers from countries with active or relevant EVD transmission may be required to complete the Health Declaration Form to support surveillance, risk assessment, contact tracing and early detection of suspected cases.
It, however, said travellers arriving from all other countries were currently exempt from completing the form, in line with Nigeria’s risk-based approach to border health surveillance.
The agency urged travellers and members of the public to remain vigilant for symptoms associated with Ebola, particularly those with a history of exposure to the disease.
It advised anyone who develops symptoms to seek prompt medical attention and provide healthcare workers with accurate information about relevant travel or exposure history.
The NCDC said timely reporting and follow-up remained critical to effective disease surveillance and response.
It added that preparedness activities were ongoing and that the measures would be reviewed
