SEC Holds 2026 Capital Market Conference October 19
The National Savings Scheme is principally an inclusion tool: every Nigerian is given the opportunity to save, and those savings will be invested for the future
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will hold the 2026 National Capital Market Conference on October 19 in Abuja, with key stakeholders from the public and private sectors expected to deliberate on strategies to deepen Nigeria’s capital market.
The conference, scheduled for the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, will feature the launch of the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 (NCMMP 2.0) and the National Savings Scheme.
In a statement, the SEC said the conference would focus on strategic initiatives to enhance domestic resource mobilisation, increase investor participation and support sustainable economic growth and national development.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, will be the Chief Host.
The Director-General of the SEC, Dr Emomotimi Agama, will host the conference.
Speaking on the event, Agama described the NCMMP 2.0 as a 10-year strategy designed to guide the development of Nigeria’s capital market.
He said the master plan would provide a critical framework for measuring the growth and development of the market, adding that the endorsement of the Vice-President would be vital to its effective implementation.
On the National Savings Scheme, Agama said the initiative was principally an inclusion tool designed to provide Nigerians across income groups with opportunities to save and invest for the future.
He said tax incentives would be introduced to encourage participation, adding that the initiative aligned with the Federal Government’s broader fiscal policy direction.
According to him, tax relief for citizens earning below a specified income threshold would increase their disposable income and potentially enhance their capacity to save and invest.
“The National Savings Scheme is principally an inclusion tool: every Nigerian is given the opportunity to save, and those savings will be invested for the future,” Agama said.
Other activities scheduled for the conference include the presentation of reports by the Capital Market Committee Technical Working Groups and the inauguration of the NCMMP 2.0 Project Steering Committee.
The Capital Market Master Plan Implementation Committee will also be inaugurated during the event.
The SEC said the conference formed part of its broader efforts to deepen Nigeria’s capital market and strengthen its contribution to economic growth and national development.
