2027: Wike to Lead Tinubu Campaign in FCT, Rivers
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to inaugurate campaign structures for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.
Wike said he would personally lead the campaign teams in both locations, signalling his continued support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The minister disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while speaking with journalists after inspecting the ongoing dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road.
According to him, political parties and various support groups are already mobilising ahead of the election, while those backing the president from different political platforms have also begun preparations.
“The ruling All Progressives Congress, I believe, is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign.
“For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to kick-start.
“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers, which I will lead,” Wike said.
He added: “All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready, and you can see the enthusiasm.”
Wike also linked the administration’s infrastructure projects in the FCT to the political support he expects the president to receive in the territory.
He argued that visible development projects would influence voters, while dismissing any suggestion that electoral malpractice would be responsible for the president’s performance in the FCT.
“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against the president as far as this election is concerned.
“This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes,” he said.
The minister further expressed confidence that the administration’s infrastructure projects would translate into electoral support for Tinubu and other candidates backed by the governing coalition in the FCT.
“It is obvious. Nobody will be able to claim rigging in FCT. The ‘rigging’ is the projects we are delivering, making the people happy,” Wike said.
He specifically referenced the expected political support for Senator Philip Aduda and candidates for the two House of Representatives seats in the territory.
Earlier, Wike commended the contractor and engineers handling the Kuje-Gwagwalada road project, promising that adequate funding would be provided to ensure its completion by December.
“This is my first time getting to this side of the road, and I can see how highly populated this area is,” he said.
The minister said infrastructure delivery remained central to his administration’s approach to governance in the FCT, adding that the response of residents to completed projects was an indication of the importance of development.
“You can imagine the enthusiasm and happiness on the faces of the people. That is why we say the essence of governance is to make people happy.
“When the people are happy, those in authority are happy,” Wike added.
He also thanked President Tinubu for his support for capital projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
