Troops under Operation UDO KA have dismantled a suspected terrorist camp in Anambra State, recovering weapons, ammunition and materials linked to improvised explosives.

Personnel from the 185 Battalion, working with members of the Anambra Vigilante Group, carried out the operation after three people were abducted around Osakwa in Ihiala Local Government Area. Security forces later rescued the victims.

According to a statement published on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Friday, troops arrested a suspected kidnapper, Sunday Obi, during a surprise operation on October 1, 2026.

The Army said information obtained from Obi led security operatives to a suspected criminal syndicate’s camp at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area, across the Isieke waterside.

The soldiers reportedly travelled through the waterways in canoes before reaching the hideout. They encountered suspected terrorists at the location, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The suspects reportedly fled the area with gunshot injuries.

Security personnel recovered a range of weapons and ammunition from the camp. The items included:

  • Two AK-47 rifles with magazines

  • Three pump-action guns

  • Three locally made Dane guns

  • 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition

  • 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition

  • Two cartridges

  • Suspected bomb-making materials

  • A solar generator

  • A power bank

  • A car battery

  • Two motorcycle batteries

  • Two solar panels

  • Two mobile phones

The recovery provides security agencies with further information about the suspected group’s operations and support network in the area.

The Army said the materials discovered at the camp had revealed part of the logistical network allegedly supporting kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area.

The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts by Operation UDO KA and other personnel working to disrupt criminal networks and improve security in communities across the South-East.

What impact could the recovery of the weapons and equipment have on security operations in the area?
