Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo  will look towards tax on luxury items to sustain the payment of the N18,000 national minimum wage by the state.

With this, the state is expected to put pressure on the rich to pay their taxes regularly than reducing the salaries/wages of workers in the State.

`You have to pay tax, many Nigerians have houses in other countries and they pay land use charge. But when they come to Edo, they think they can use bold face. No, we will squeeze them”

“If you don’t pay, we take you to court, we secure conviction and we send you to prison”.

“And we secure convictions and squeeze the money out of their pockets”.

Oshiomole and Iyesom Wike of Rivers had opposed to reduction of workers’ salaries being considered by the Governors Forum.

“`And we are up to date in salaries. Last November I paid (salaries) on 25th, in October we paid on the 23rd and this December, we will pay by the 20th, before Christmas and people are entitled to celebrate democracy’’, he said.

He said the N6trillion 2016 Federal Government’s budget is a “progressive step aimed at creating more employment opportunities.

The governor called for the extension of the ongoing probe of arms purchase scam to cover all those who endorsed, signed and approved the release of the stolen money.

He said his call was informed by the fact that the former National Security Adviser, retired Col. Sambo Dasuki, a principal suspect in the scam, was an advisory officers, not a procurement agent for government.
