As the January 9 supplementary election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State draws closer, youths of the area have affirmed their support for Governor Henry Seriake Dickson.
Presidents of youth associations in the various communities who stated their support at an enlarged meeting with Governor Dickson in Government House at the weekend said they are encouraged by his sincerity and leadership credentials.
They said their support for the governor is also as a result of his achievements in the areas of security, infrastructural development and human capital development which, according to them, will stand the test of time.
The youths who also spoke on the need to ensure a second term for the governor moved a motion which was unanimously accepted to endorse him for another four years in office.
Noting that Dickson has proved himself as a leader, they assured that they will vote massively for him in the supplementary election on January 9 in order to return him for a second tenure in office.
Addressing the youths, the governor urged them to mobilise their people to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while stressing that though the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election inconclusive, the party has already won.
Dickson, however, noted that since the PDP represents the collective interests of the Ijaw people, it is needful that the party also wins in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area to make the victory complete.
He attributed the violence of the December poll to the APC, saying, “The APC is afraid of defeat that is why they decided to mar the poll with violence, in spite of that, be peaceful and conduct yourselves properly during the forthcoming poll, as all your leaders are behind the party.”
According to him, personal voter cards will be used in the January 9 election and that all the security agencies as well as INEC agreed at a meeting in Abuja to conduct a peaceful poll.
Speaking, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Konbowei Benson, thanked the governor for addressing the youths ahead of the rescheduled election and urged the youths not to be deceived by APC antics.
