NBA,NLC complaints against Okorocha top petition at the Senate.

35

A joint petition by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Bar Association against Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo over unpaid workers’ salaries in the state is among the 65 petitions before the eighth senate.

The Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges is also looking into another petition from the workers of Imo State House of Assembly bordering also on non-payment of salaries by the state government.

The National Assembly has progressed slowly, but Samuel Anyanwu (PDP-Imo North) chairman of the committee said the lawmakers are currently looking into a total of 65 petitions.

Of this number, 35 had been attended to, 11 approved as presented by the committee while others were under investigations.

He said the committee employed wisdom to handle amicably most of the petitions which ordinarily could snowball into disagreements in the Senate while the members did not succumb to pressures and directives from outside while handling the petitions.

The chairman said the successes recorded by the committee had proved otherwise those who thought his choice as its chairman was wrong

On petitions against Okorocha on unpaid salaries, Anyanwu urged the governor to reconsider his recent policies and directives which were causing ripples amongst civil servants in the state

He also urged the people of the state to pay their taxes to enable the government to provide the needed dividends of democracy.
