An NGO named Drug and Substance Abuse Eradication Initiative, says it is sensitizing secondary schools students in Nasarawa State against drug abuse and other social vices due to their negative effects on the society.
Mr Moses Manjo, the Executive Director of the organisation, stated this in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
The organization recently carried out sensitization campaign against drug abuse to Sokoga British School and Baptist High school, all in the Keffi local government area of the state and to some other secondary schools in the state.
The theme of the campaign is “Drug Abuse: The Future and You”.
According to Manjo, the campaign will go a long way in helping the students to resist the temptation of going into drugs and substance abuse.
Manjo said that they decided to create awareness in secondary schools in order to educate them on the danger of drug abuse to societal development and how to overcome addiction.
“It will also help the students to educate others on the dangers of drug abuse to themselves and to societal development,” he said.
He said that drug abuse and other social vices had affected the education of many Nigerian youths and the society negatively, hence the need for effective collaboration in order to eradicate the menace.
He advised parents and guardians to monitor their wards’ movement in order not to be influenced by bad friends.
The executive director assured of the organisation’s commitment to initiate peace promotion and other activities that would bring the much needed development to the country.
Aside that, he called on Nassarawa state people and Nigerians at large to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliation.
