The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday announced a new time frame for the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise from 9am to 5pm daily instead of 9am to 3pm daily as earlier announced.
The commission in a statement signed by its National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) Mohammed Haruna in Abuja said the extension was the outcome of the review of the ongoing CVR exercise.
The change takes effect from August 1, 2018 including weekends and public holidays. The statement reads in part “There will also be registration on Saturdays and Sundays as well as pubic holidays (if any) within the period.
“The exercise will be suspended at 5pm on Friday 17, August until after the 2019 general elections.” On the conduct of the July 14, 2018 Governorship election held in Ekiti state the Commission noted satisfaction despite other deep concerns.
Haruna said it noted ” the rising phenomenon of vote buying during elections and restated its commitment and determination to continue to work with all the stake holders, especially the security agencies to stem the ugly trend.” On the upcoming Osun state governorship election, the commission agreed to further improve on the success recorded in the previous election, he added.
