Multiple Deaths In Shooting At Maryland Rite Aid Facility
Several people were shot and “multiple” were killed at a Rite Aid distribution center in a Harford County, Maryland, business park on Thursday morning, Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said during a press conference.
A single, unnamed suspect is in custody at a local hospital in critical condition, Gahler said, noting that there was no additional threat to the community. The suspect was carrying a handgun.
No shots were fired by any law enforcement officials, the sheriff said. No questions were taken during the short press conference.
The Associated Press reported three fatalities, citing an unnamed law enforcement official.
Authorities responded at 9:06 a.m. Eastern time to the intersection of Spesutia and Perryman Roads in Perryman, Maryland, a semi-rural spot in a small town around 30 miles northeast of Baltimore.
The shooting took place at a building adjacent to a larger distribution facility where Rite Aid employs around 1,000 people in total, The New York Times reported. The shooter’s motivation is not yet known.
Victims have been transported to trauma centers in Baltimore and across the state border to Delaware, local CBS affiliate WJZ reported.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said earlier his office was “closely monitoring” the incident, posting on his official Twitter page that “the State stands ready to offer any support.”
The FBI, Maryland State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms had responded to the scene.
