NOUN in talks with NUC, Law School over law programme

With the acceptance of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in the education sector of the country, the institution has commenced efforts to resolve issues inhibiting the accreditation of law course by the National University Commission.

NOUN is also in talks with the Nigerian Law School to make its graduates undergo the compulsory one year programme at Nigerian Law School.
This will eventually break the barriers inhibiting access to university and higher education in the country and  improve students’ enrollment to tertiary institutions
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said this will address the fear of existing and prospective students of the institution.
He spoke during the visit of the executives of the alumnus  of the institution led by Phil Colman, national president and Ayeni Olutope, national treasurer.
NOUN was established in 2005 during Obasanjo’s administration and has since been a viable alternative to conventional institutions for Nigerians desirous of university and higher education.
Obasanjo, an alumnus of NOUN with a degree in Theology and is now, the grand‎ patron of NOUN Alumni Association.
“Nobody in Nigeria will say he doesn’t have access to higher education with NOUN, except he doesn’t want. I saw some students complaining about law accreditation in NOUN, but I hope the Law programme has come to stay.”
Phil Colman, the president of NOUNAA, lauded Obasanjo for “opening up university education space with establishment of NOUN.”

He however, assured law graduates and students of the institution that they have assurance from Obasanjo that they would soon enrol graduates of law from NOUN across the nation into Nigerian Law School.

The Ogun State chairman of NOUNAA, Bode Mustapha in his remarks urged Nigerians to make use of NOUN opportunity to access higher education in the country.

He stated that the institution now boast of a royal father, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona as a law student and ex-governor of Osun state, Olagunsoye Oyinlola as student of Theology.
