Barely 16 days to the kick-off of the 2019 Presidential election, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara formally announced his decision to finally dump All Progressive Congress (APC) for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) o end months of speculations..
Dogara who presided over the plenary session disclosed this when he read his letter on the floor, said he defected back to the party on whose platform he originally came to the House.
In the same vein, two other lawmakers namely: Edward Pwajok (Plateau) and Ahmed Yerima (Bauchi) defected from APC to PDP.
After the passage of the bill on the National Minimum Wage and other legislative activities, the House resolved to adjourn sitting till after the general election, on the 19th February, 2019.
Dogara had during the public hearing on the National Minimum Wage stressed the need for the National Assembly to adjourn to enable them prepare for the 2019 general elections.
“As most of us here must be aware, the National Assembly will need to go on a short recess for the purpose of the General Elections, which is less than three weeks from now.
“We must, therefore, conclude this Public Hearing as quickly as possible today to enable the House proceed with further legislative actions on it at its plenary tomorrow as already resolved in our last sitting.
“More importantly, the consideration and passage of this Bill is equally exigent because our country is at the brink of a national industrial crisis that we can least afford at this time.  Passions are extremely high within the entire Organised Labour on this issue,” the Speaker noted.
