NERC To Announce New Performance Template This Week

In its bid to correct the epileptic power supply and ensure its stable supply in the country, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission ( NERC) is working on a new template for effective performance management for the industry.

NERC Chairman, Sam Amadi said this will correct some of the challenges of the power sector especially those to do with project performance management.

The new template is expected at the end of an ongoing two-day workshop initiated by the commission for for the sector’s Performance Management officers of Generation and Transmission Companies.

He said that the need to take the sector to an amiable height that could stand international reckoning makes it imperative to build a team of performance management officers, who would both monitor and report to the Commission particularly activities of generation and transmission companies. According to him, the current problem of the generated electricity predates privatisation.

‘’ We cannot wheel out adequate power today because there has not been project management which goes back to PHCN before privatisation’’.

To the performance officers he said, ‘’ All of you have signed up to capacity improvement. We should all leave this place with a new understanding on how to deliver efficient capacity’’.

Dr Amadi affirmed NERC’s continuous support with a pledge for extensive monitoring, geared towards achieving stable sector; taking into cognisance the need to make the grid  strong enough to transport the power being generated.
