Sunday Olorundare Thomas, the deputy Insurance commissioner (Technical) has taken over the reins in acting capacity at the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) as curtains fell yesterday on the tenure of Mohammed Kari, the immediate past Insurance commissioner and chief executive officer.
Kari appointed on July 31 2015 handed over to Thomas on the closure of his four-year tenure that was characterised by internal wranglings between the workers and the management of the commission.
Thomas who was appointed deputy commissioner in April 2017 is the next to Kari and will act pending the announcement of the new Insurance Commissioner by the federal government.
Thomas, a practitioner with long years of experience is not new to the commission having previously work there as a director in charge of inspectorate from 1992 to 2009 before he was appointed the fifth director-general of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) on May 1, 2010.
Prior to his first experience at the commission, he had worked worked in the Insurance industry for over 10years where he rose to the position of assistant general manager at AIICO Insurance Plc before left in 1992.
