Berger , Cadbury Lead In Investors’ N187.6bn Loss.
Losses recorded by Berger, Cadbury yesterday strengthened declines in investments of investors in the equity market, as supply continues to pitch against supply of priced stocks.
the Nigerian equities market closed negative Monday as NSE-ASI lost 1.27 per cent to close at 27,041.03pts. Market breadth index was negative with 33 losers against 5 gainers.
Market capitalisation on the first trading day of the week declined by N188 billion. Market capitalisation which opened the day at N14, 268,248 trillion, but closed at N14,087,167 trillion.
To lead the losers on Monday, JBERGER share price dipped by N1.6 or 6.67 per cent, ending the day at N22.4 per share, followed by NB that dropped by N1.45 or 2.99 per cent, while GTBank, closed as the third highest gainer with N1.05 or 3.76 per cent.
CADBURY, closed as the fourth-highest loser with N0.9 or 9.89 per cent, closing at N8.2 per share, while ZENITH closed the top five losers chart with N0.75 or 3.78 per cent dip, to close at N19.1 per share.
GUARANTY led the activity chart on Monday with 177,129,738 million shares, worth N4, 792,858,980.40 billion. FBNH followed with a turnover of 60,097,072 million shares, worth N329, 464,293.90 million, while ZENITH BANK, the third in the day’s activity table recorded 56,152,768 million shares worth N1, 090,537,953.90 billion.
UBA, the fourth in activity chart recorded 39,165,720 million turnover of shares, worth N267, 206, 314.60 million, while UCAP closed the top five active stocks chart on Monday with 18,479,976 million shares worth N62, 992,338.26 million.
NSE Banking Index yesterday posted the highest decline, as it fell by 4.78 per cent, driven 9.23 per cent declines in FCMB, 9.23 per cent drop in share price of WEMABANK, UBN’s -9.21 per cent, UBA’s -7.43 per cent and ACCESS bank’s decline by 6.38 per cent.
NSE Industrial Index declined by 0.85 per cent, as a result of losses in BUACEMENT by -1.51 per cent.
NSE Consumer Goods Index depressed by 0.72 per cent, due to fall in CADBURY by -9.89 per cent, NB by -2.99 per cent and HONEYFLOUR by -2.97 per cent.
NSE Oil & Gas Index depressed by 0.45 per cent, on the back of the sell-offs in OANDO which dipped by 3.64 per cent, while CAVERTON share price lost 0.34 per cent.
LAWUNION led the gainers with N0.07 or 9.59 per cent, closing the day at N0.8 per share, followed by MAYBAKER which rose by N0.05 or 2.75 per cent, ending at N1.87 per share, while STERLING BANK appreciated by N0.04 or 2.74 per cent, to close at N1.5 per share.
LINKASSURE, the fourth best gainer, rose by N0.02 or 4.65 per cent, to close at N0.45 per share, while VITAFOAM closed the top five gainers at N4.51 per share, following decline by N0.01 or 0.22 per cent.
