Stanbic Led Gainers As Equities Market Sustains Positive Sentiment
Bullish sentiment was sustained in the Nigerian equities market Thursday , as trading closed positive yive, climaxing to three days of bulish run.
STANBIC led the gainers chart on Thursday with N3.2 or 9.85 per cent growth to close at N35.7 per share.
Sentiment continued to wax stronger in the domestic equities market, consequently, the benchmark index rose by 0.04 per cent to 26,426.20. The Month-to-Date return increased to +0.8 per cent, while Year-to-Date loss moderated to -1.6 per cent. The total volume of trades increased by 40.4 per cent to 431.92 million units, valued at N7.82 billion and exchanged in 4,518 deals.
ETI followed on the top gainers group with N0.55 or 9.32 per cent growth, closing at N6.45 per share, while ZENITH close as the third best gainers, with N0.4 or 2.04 per cent growth, closing trade at N19.6 per share.
GUARANTY, closed as the fourth-highest gainer with N0.3 or 1.22 per cent, closing the day at N24.9 per share, while UBA closed the top five gainers chart at N7.15 per share, following growth by N0.25 or 3.62 per cent.
On sector performance, gains in the NSE Banking index by 3.32 per cent and NSE Insurance Index by 0.11 per cent, outperformed the declines recorded in the NSE Industrial Goods Index which fell 1.87 per cent, and NSE Consumer Goods index -0.12 per cent dip, as the NSE Oil & Gas index closed flat. Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth on Thursday was positive by 2.0x, as 22 tickers gained, relative to 11 losers
GUARANTY emerged the most active stock Thursday with 75,790,858 million N1,887,164,591.40 billion , followed by ZENITHBANK with turnover of 62,749,423 million shares , worth N1,253,651,017.65 billion, while REDSTAREX as the third most active, recorded 61,825,830 million shares turnover, worth N184,240,982.40 million.
UBA, the fourth most active, recorded 42,896,835 million shares, valued N302, 941,593.40 million, while UCAP closed the top five most active stocks chart Thursday with 33,180,553Mmillion shares, valued N104, 628,689.63 million.
NESTLE led the losers on Thursday with N63 or 5.83 per cent, closing trade at N1017 per share, followed by NGLAXOSMITH with N0.4 or 9.52 per cent decline, to end the day at N3.8 per share, while UBN, as the third-highest decliner, dipped by N0.25 or 3.52 per cent, closing at N6.85 per share.
ACCESS closed down by N0.2 or 2.22 per cent, ending Thursday’s trading session at N8.8 per share, while ETERNA closed the top five losers chart at N2.02 per share, the following decline by N0.16 or 7.37 per cent.
