With most economies of the world looking to gas as a clean and cheap source of energy, Shell Nigeria Gas Limited, has announced plans to establish various gas hubs across Nigeria.
Besides, the oil giant stated that energy is one of the most critical factors for industrialists and manufacturing plants required for Nigeria’s real sector to be successful and competitive in the global market.
The Managing Director, Shell Nigeria Gas Limited, Ed Ubong, at the just concluded Nigeria Manufacturing and Equipment (NME) Expo, explained that Shell has been providing gas to industrial and free trade zones in the country in a bid to support Nigeria’s industrialization drive.
“We are the largest energy company in Nigeria and we are committed to producing more energy and cleaner energy. We have also tried to support the industrial and manufacturing sectors. Rivers, Lagos and Ogun are the most industrialized States in Nigeria today and we have been providing gas to these three industrial States and other States in the country which has helped to support industrialization,” he said.
In his words, “Gas is the cheapest source of energy and we are committed to develop various gas hubs across Nigeria, some in the West, Niger Delta and the North as the federal government begins to position itself to start the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) project. Shell is here to stay and we partners with Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN). We will continue to look for ways to support you as you seek for more energy solutions.”
The AKK project is a 614km long natural gas pipeline currently being developed by the NNPC and forms phase one of the Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline (TNGP) project.
A Private Sector Development Expert, UNIDO, Omolola Odebiyi, stated that the introduction of green manufacturing to address environmental impact can help to promote sustainability for the industrial processes, while also leading to improvement in production efficiency which sustains industrial competitiveness and improves manufacturing.
“Africa and indeed Nigeria cannot afford to lack behind in the fourth industrial revolution. To attain this feat, there is need to put in place basic industrial capabilities. We understand the importance of partnering MAN and other agencies to attain this feat,” she said.
