Covid-19: No Case In Oyo Yet

The Oyo State government has reassured of its commitment to ensuring a disease-free state saying no coronavirus case has been reported or confirmed yet until the result of the said suspected individual’s test is made public.
There are several reported cases of Corona Virus in neighboring states, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr Bashir Bello said the surveillance system is at work as part of the actions embarked upon by the state government to prevent the outbreak in the state.
Dr. Bashir said, “Oyo state ministry of health would like to reassure the public that our surveillance system has been activated and contact tracing is ongoing. For instance, the individuals involved in the confirmed cases in Ekiti State, transitted through Ibadan, our state capital. Contact-tracing is on”.
He added that a case of an individual who just returned from the UK was earlier reported today but the individual is observing the protocol of self-isolation at the moment while samples have been collected and sent to the National Reference Laboratory, LUTH, as they await results tomorrow.
Bashir stated that all facilities in Oyo State remain on high alert and adequate resources have been deployed to all facilities in case of unforeseen circumstances.
He thereby implored the public to remain calm and adhere to all the safety precautions like; regular hand washing with soap and running water or use of alcohol-based sanitizers, observe good respiratory hygiene and also notify the Ministry of Health if the 14-day self-isolation is not complied with.
The public has also been asked to remain calm but ensure adherence preventive practices like social distancing, staying about 6 feet from the next person, limit social gathering and social contact to only when absolutely necessary.
According to him, “The State Ministry of Health has continued to follow the unraveling of the outbreak. Since its onset in December 2019, over 170,000 cases and 7,000 deaths have been reported across over 150 countries of the world”.
