Covid-19: Lockdown Extension, Fresh Stimulus Package Under Consideration

The federal government may expand the lockdown to new states in addition to the existing ones as a fresh stimulus package is under consideration.
The expansion of the lockdown will mean cessation of movements in parts of the country that is not currently covered
These are parts of the highlights of the meeting between Vice president Yemi Osinbajo and President Muhammadu Buhari where the current measures against the COVID-19 pandemic were reviewed.
President Buhari had March 29 ordered restriction on movements in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of measures to combat the pandemic.
Vice President Osinbajo while speaking after the closed-door meeting with the President, said the government has plans to do more for the poor, stating that discussions centred on how to resolve some of the very pressing issues around CoVID -19 and indeed the economy.
best way forward for Nigeria will soon be submitted to the President.
Osinbajo who is the chairman of the economic sustainability committee constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of the National response strategy to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians as the country battles the COVID -19 pandemic, said they both compared notes on what more can be done for the poor in the face of the stringent measures put in place by the government to check the spread of coronavirus in the country.
The President had earlier met with the Presidential Task Force on COVID -19 where he pleaded for more patience and understanding of Nigerians as efforts are intensified by Government towards containing the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
At the strategic engagement with the team, the Nigerian leader expressed optimistism that the curve will be flattened as the nation aggressively and appropriately responds to the disease

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha is mandated to design appropriate response mechanism for containing the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
The Presidential task force had provided detailed update as well as options that will guide government on the next actions in tackling the pandemic
Following the current lockdown, feelers from government had indicated a need for a total lockdown or at best and expansion of the lockdown that is currently in force in Lagos Ogun and the FCT to some high risk stayed.
At the meeting were Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, accompanied to the state house by the National Coordinator of the task force Sani Aliyu, Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire and the DG NCDC Chikwe Ihekweazu.
