Covid-19: Gov. Fayemi Extends Border Closure, Lockdown in Ekiti till April 27

As a continuous measure aimed at curbing the fast-spreading of coronavirus, the Ekiti state government Monday extended restrictions of movement, curfew and border closures for another two weeks ending Monday April 27.
According to a directive from the Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi, all boundaries of the state shall remain closed during the period of extension, except for transportation of fuel and essential goods.
Fayemi, however, stated that the movement restriction in the state would be suspended on Thursday, 16th April from 6am-2pm and Thursday, 21 April, 2020 from 6am-2pm in order to enable people re-stock essential goods.
In addition, he mandated wearing of face mask by individual in public places from April 14th as the state will ensure provision to all essential workers.
He stated that Ekiti state is making efforts to set up a Covid-19 test center in the state noting that a committee recently set up by the state government, The Ekiti State Coronavirus Disease (Prevention of Infection) Regulations/Committee 2020, would remain active during this extension inorder to mobilize funds and manage projects to prevent the spread of this pandemic.
Fayemi also stressed that, “The School on Air programme for primary and secondary school students will continue during the period. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has been directed to continue to improve on the modalities for ensuring effective delivery of this programme”.
He emphasised that all businesses and other entities should cease operations during this period except those involved in the provision of essential goods or services.
Fayemi clarified that only few category of individuals and institutions providing certain critical services were exempted from the restrictions.
They include persons performing essential services particularly health workers and persons delivering food items.
The category also included persons in production, distribution and marketing of food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, medicine, paper and plastic packages, environmental and sanitation activities, staff of electricity, water, telecommunications, e-commerce and digital service providers and staff of fuel stations.
Adding that the state would continue to intensify ongoing measure specifically in response to the hardship being experienced by people.
Also, a comprehensive package of economic support measures to assist businesses and individuals affected by the pandemic.
He said the state would also provide additional palliatives programme to increase social support in protecting poor and vulnerable households.
Governor Fayemi acknowledged the patient and understanding of Ekiti Kete. Adding that the measures taking so far has been accurate in curbing this pandemic .
The state government continues to frown against any act of shaking hands, hugging, close physical contacts
The state urged all Ekiti Ketes to continue to stay safe as the wash their hands regularly and thoroughly using water and soap or sanitizer
Two weeks ago, governor Fayemi imposed a ban on all commercial activities as well as intra state travels,, except for those bordering on essential services.
As he added that anyone that violated measures aimed at checking further spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state, risked a six-month jail term.
