Equities Market Opens Week On 0.4% Dip

The new week saw commenced on a dull on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) where its All Share-Index declined by 0.39 percent, closing the trade at 23,950.83.
In the last session, the NSEASI closed lower at 24,045.40, following a decline of 1.27 percent.
Due to the profit-taking impact, Month-to-Date gain decreased to 4.0 percent, as Year-to-Date losses increased to -10.8 percent. Market Capitalization also declined by 0.39 percent, to end the day at N12.48 trillion. Trading opened the week with a market value of N12.53 trillion and -1.27 percent dip.
The traded volume and value also recorded a decline, while 207.24 million shares traded Monday reflected dip by 0.64 percent compared with 208.58 million shares traded last Friday, the value of transacted stocks also reduced by N19.03 percent to N1.77 trillion, against N N2.19 billion value that opened trading, though reflecting 58.31 percent decline. However, the number of deals recorded on Monday increased by 3.24 percent to 4,360 deals, compared with the 4,320 deals posted last Friday
Performance across sectoral indices was negative, as losses in the Banking index by -2.8 percent, Insurance index by 0.2 percent, and Industrial Goods index by -0.1 percent, reflected the overall market performance. Gains in the Oil and Gas by 0.6 percent and Consumer Goods index by 2.4 percent did little to offset the losses.
Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was positive by 1.1x, as 13 tickers gained, relative to 12 losers.
CAP recorded the highest loss on Monday by N2.25 or 9.83 percent, closing the trade at N20.65 per share, followed by GUARANTY with N0.95 or 4.33 percent dip, to close at N21.00 per share, while UBN (BLS), the third on the losers group, declined by N0.60 or 8.57 percent, to close at N6.40 per share.
Zenith Bank closed as the fourth on the losers table with N0.35 or 2.27per cent, closing the trade at N15.05 per share, while Honeyflour closed the top five losers chart at N0.98 per share, following a decline of N0.09 or 8.41 per share.
UNILEVER opened the week as the highest gainer, with N1.05 or 10.00 percent, to close at N11.50 per share, followed by ARDOVA with N0.70 or 4.58 percent rise, while CILEASING appreciated by N0.30 or 6.67 percent, ending the day at N4.80 per share.
ETERNA gained N0.17 or 7.87 percent, ending the day at N2.33 per share, while OANDO closed the top five gainers chart at N2.80 per share, having advanced by N0.15 or 5.66 percent.
FBNH emerged as the most active stock on Monday with 44,113,751 million shares worth 207,574,181.65 million and transacted in 313 deals, GUARANTY followed with 27,690,055 million shares worth N585,021,114.10 million in 454 deals, while REGALINS the third most active stock polled 20,690,948 million shares, valued N4,139,139.60 million in 16 deals.
AIICO, the fourth most active, recorded 14,445,030 million shares, valued N13,300,980.62 million in 109 deals, while Zenith Bank closed the top five activity chart Monday with 12,265,601 million shares, valued N185,311,742.20 million transacted in 410 deals.
NESF was the least transacted volume with 2 shares worth N1,104.40 in one deal, followed by SKYAVN with 3 shares valued N4.74 traded in one deal, while INTERLINK posted 30 shares worth N78.60 in one deal, PRESCO posted 100 shares worth N4,005.00 in one deal, while TOURIST [DIP] recorded 100 shares worth N300.00 in one deal.
