Bullish Trading Pushes ASI 0.9%
Trading was bullish on the first day of the new week, helping the NSE ASI to go up by 0.9 percent to 25,249.90 points, the biggest rise since it gained 1.8 percent on May 22, 2020.
Growth was spurred by investors’ interest in BUACEMENT which rose by 3.8 percent, MTNN that gained 1.7 percent and some Tier 1 bank stocks. Thus, Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date losses moderated to -0.1 percent and -5.9 percent, respectively.
The total volume of trades increased by 7.5 percent to 230.49 million units, valued at N2.17 billion, and exchanged in 4,621 deals. FBNH was the most traded stock by volume at 34.50 million units while GUARANTY was the most traded stock by value at NGN550.14 million.
The sectoral performance was positive, following gains in the Industrial Goods by 2.4 percent, Insurance by 1.6 percent, Banking index by 1.1 percent, Oil and Gas index by 0.2 percent, and Consumer Goods index by 0.04 percent. Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was positive by 2.8x, as 31 tickers gained, relative to 11 losers.
MTNN led the gainers Monday with N2 or 1.72 percent closing the trade at N118 per share, followed by BUACEMENT which gained N1.5 or 3.75 percent, ending the day at N41.5 per share, while UACN as the third-best gainer, appreciated by N0.5 or 6.45 percent, ending trade at N8.25 per share.
NB, the fourth-best gainer closed at N42.5 per share, following appreciation by N0.5 or 1.19 percent, while VITA FOAM closed the top five gainers chart at N5.69 per share, having risen by N0.29 or 5.37 percent.
DANSUGAR closed as the top loser Monday with N0.4 or 2.68 percent dip, to end the day at N14.55 per share, followed by GUINNESS which declined by N0.3 or 1.64 percent, closing the trade at N18.00 per share, while ETERNA, the third-highest loser dipped N0.12 or 4.49 percent, ending the session at N42.00 per share.
CORNERSTONE closed lower at N0.5 per share, having declined by N0.05 or 9.09 percent, while CUSTODIAN closed the top five decliners chart at N6 per share, having lost N0.05 or 0.83 percent.
FBNH led the activity chart on Monday with 34,502,321 million shares worth N188, 347,484.15 million, followed by GUARANTY with 22,881,532 million shares, worth N550, 138,397.90 million, while JAPAULOIL, the third best-traded stock, pulled 21,213,872 million shares valued N6, 367,955.12 million.
UBA closed as the fourth most active stock Monday with 19,537,839 million shares worth N131, 951,463.00 million, while ZENITH BANK closed the top five gainers chart with 19,273,434 million shares, worth N327, 058,856.85 million.
