Transactions went negative as losses across sectors forced the All-Share Index to decline by 0.2 percent to 24,933.41 points, couple with the profit-taking in Nigerian Breweries (-9.5%). Thus, Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date losses increased to -1.3% and -7.1%, respectively.
The total volume of trades decreased by 35.6 percent to 171.21 million units, valued at NGN2.21 billion, and exchanged in 3,315 deals. FCMB was the most traded stock by volume at 32.36 million units, whereas GUARANTY was the most traded stock by value at NGN707.91 million.
The sectoral performance was negative, following declines in the Consumer Goods (-1.8%) and Banking (-0.1%) indices amid gains in the Insurance (+1.2%) and Oil & Gas (+0.4%) indices. The Industrial Goods index continued to trade flat.
Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was negative (0.9x), as 10 tickers declined, relative to 9 gainers. FIDSON (-9.7%) and NB (-9.5%) were the top losers of the day, while CILEASING (+9.5%) and AIICO (+9.0%) recorded the most significant gains.
The four-day trading sessions of the week so far recorded three declines, (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday), while midweek, activities on the bourse closed in green.
The declines Thursday was driven by losses posted by value stocks led by the Nigerian Breweries, leading to the decline in the NSE All-Share –Index by 0.16 percent to close at 24,933.41.
Equities market capitalization also closed by the same margin of 0.16 percent, to close Thursday at N13, 006,772, 961,102.72 trillion. Traded volume closed at 171,208,471.00 million shares, reflecting a decline from 265,964,169.00 million shares recorded midweek.
The Value of traded stocks ended the day at N2, 210,693,302.89 billion, form N2, 708,736,566.85 billion recorded on the prior trading session.
A total number of 3,315.00 deals were transacted Thursday by investors, against 3,564.00 deals posted on Wednesday.
Thus, a total of 171,208,471.00 million shares valued N2, 210,693,302.89 billion was transacted by investors in 3,315.00 deals.
NB with N4.00 or 9.52 percent decline, led the losers Thursday as it closed trade at N38.00 per share, FIDSON followed with n0.33 OR 9.71 percent to end the session at N3.07 per share, while NEIMETH , as the third on the losers chart, depreciated by N0.18 or 9.52 percent, ending the day at N0.18 per share.
NPFMCRFBK closed the day as the fourth on losers chart with N0.11 or 7.28 percent, ending the day at N1.51 per share, while JAIZBANK closed the top five losers chart at N0.61, following a decline by N0.06 or 8.96 percent.
MTNN closed the day as top gainer having appreciated by N0.5 or 0.43 percent. CILEASING followed with N0.4 or 9.52 percent, ending trade at N4.6 per share, while OANDO, as the third-best gainer rose by N0.1 or 4.08 per cent, closing the trade at N2.55 per share.
GUARANTY ended the day higher at N23.1 per share, on the back of N0.1 or 0.43 per cent growth, while AIICO closed the top five gainers chart at N0.97 per cent, as it gained N0.08 or 8.99 per cent of its share price
FCMB emerged the most active stock on Thursday with 32,360,523 million shares worth N55, 664,928.64 million posted in 41 deals. GUARANTY followed with a turnover of 29,396,809 million shares worth N707, 906,610.05 million recorded in 272 deals, while FBNH as the third most active stock polled 10,730,959 million shares worth N54,444,340.90 million in 207 deals.
UBA recorded 9,859,196 million shares worth N63,005,799.45 million in 186 deals, while ACCESS closed the top five active stocks chart with 9,173,931 million shares, worth N62,420,269.70 million in 148 deals.
