Equities Market Cap Dip N41bn In Two Days
The Nigerian bourse capitalization declined by N41 billion in the two trading sessions (Monday, Tuesday,) closing trend at N12.91 trillion. The market value that opened the week at N12.95 trillion, closed Tuesday at N12.91 trillion.
The market posted its highest loss so far on Monday, with a decline of N38.billion, as capitalization closed at N12.913 trillion, from N12.951 trillion which opened the week. However, the rate of loss declined remarkably on Tuesday, as market value dropped by N0.3 billion to close at N12.910 trillion from N12.913 trillion which opened the day.
All Share Index (ASI), the total number of deals and market capitalization, all declined on Tuesday as investors sustained their cautious trading, pitching supply against the demand for highly-priced stocks.
The NSE ASI closed at 24,750.06, reflecting a marginal 0.02 percent decline from 24,753.92 which opened the day’s trading session. Also, equities market capitalization recorded a 0.02 percent decline to close at N12.91 trillion.
The total number of deals dropped by 1.48 percent to 3,783 deals, against 3,843.00 deals recorded on Monday. However, the volume of transacted shares rose by 34.70 percent to 167.94 million shares. Value of traded shares also rose by 17.41 percent to N1.54 billion
Remarkably, sentiments in the domestic equities market remained weak, as investors took profits off DANGSUGAR as it dropped by 9.9 percent and NB which dipped by 2.7 percent. Accordingly, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date losses increased to -2.0% and -7.8%, respectively.
The sectoral performance was broadly negative, as all sector indices declined, save for the Oil & Gas index which rose by 0.2 percent. The Consumer Goods index dipped by 1.4 percent and led the declines, as the Insurance index dropped by 1.3 percent, the Banking index by 0.6 percent, and the Industrial Goods index by 0.2 percent.
Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was negative by 0.4x, as 23 tickers declined, relative to 9 gainers.
DANGSUGAR on Tuesday emerged the top loser stock with N1.30 or 9.85 percent decline, closing the day at N11.90 per share, followed by NB with N1.00 or 2.70 percent dip, ending trade at N36.00 per share, while PZ, the third on top losers chart, closed at N4.50 per share, having declined by N0.40 or 8.16 percent.
ETI, the fourth-highest loser, dipped by N0.25 or 5.10 percent, ending Tuesday at N4.65 per share, while WAPCO closed the day’s top five losers chart at N11.00 per share, the following a decline by N0.25 or 2.22 percent.
JAPAULOIL with 25,012,372 million shares, worth N6, 651,601.00 million and traded in 72 deals, emerged the most as the stock with the highest traded volume. The stock closed at N0.25 per share. FBNH followed in activity with 12,053,045 million shares worth N63, 238,054.00 million, and transacted in 212 deals, while GUARANTY recorded 11,171,003 million shares, valued N253, 461,773.00 million in 270 deals.
FCMB as the fourth most active stock polled 10,762,771 million shares worth N19, 356,097.00 million, in 64 deals, while UBA closed the top five active stocks chart with 9,745,821 million shares worth N61, 703,768.00 million recorded in 148 deals.
MTNN led the gainers on Tuesday with N 1.90 or 1.64 percent, ending the day at N118.00 per share, followed by FLOUR MILL with N0.30 or 1.52 percent, to close at N20.00 per share, while ZENITH Bank, gained N0.10 or 0.62 percent, to close at N16.25 per share.
UAC-PROP appreciated by NO.07 or 7.69 percent, to end the day at N0.98 per share, while OANDO closed the top five gainers chart at N2.50 per share, having appreciated by N0.05 or 2.04 percent.
UHOMREIT led the category with 70 shares worth N2,590.00, recorded in 2 deals, followed by BETAGLAS with a turnover of 517 shares valued N31,821.00, posted in 3 deals, while LAW UNION as the third least traded stock posted 585 shares worth N591.00, turnover in 4 deals.
