Increased Investors’ Stake Pushes Up Equities Capitalisation By N94.21bn.
The equities market Wednesday sustained growth which manifested in a notable rise in the NSE ASI by 0.75%, as the value of transacted equities deepens by 80.65 percent.
At the midweek’s trading session of the week recorded N94.21 billion growth on equities capitalization. the equities market value opened trading for the day at N12.570 trillion, but ended at N12.665 trillion, reflecting surge by N94.21 billion growth.
All Share Index (ASI) and equities market capitalization appreciated by 0.75 percent to close at 24,278.07 and N12.66 trillion respectively. Continued demand for Tier 1 bank stocks and WAPCO (+10.0%) spurred the biggest gain in the market since 26th June 2020. Accordingly, Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date losses moderated to -0.8% and -10.0%, respectively.
Investors transacted a total of 232, 60 million shares, worth N4.69 billion, recorded in 3,523 deals, while on Tuesday, a total volume of 155,529,293.00 million shares worth N2, 600,805,915.79 billion were traded by investors in a total number of 4,060.00 deals.
This showed that transacted volume increased by 49.56 percent to 232.60 million shares, the value of traded stocks rose by 80.65 percent to N4.69 billion. Conversely, the total number of deals on Wednesday declined by 13.23 percent to 3,523 deals.
Sector performance was broadly positive, following gains in the Banking Index by +3.4 percent, Insurance index by +1.1 percent, and Industrial Goods index by +0.1 percent. The Consumer Goods index dipped by -0.2 percent and Oil & Gas by -0.2 percent losses.
Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was positive by 3.1x, as 25 tickers gained, relative to 8 losers.
JULIUS BERGER emerged the highest gainer midweek with N1.55 or 9.90 percent, closing the trade at N17.20 per share, followed by GUARANTY with N1.45 or 6.89 percent growth, ending the session at N22.50 per share, while WAPCO, third on the gainers’ list appreciated by N1.00 or 10.00 percent, to end the day at N11.00 per share.
OKOMUOIL closed the day as the fourth on the gainers’ chart with N0.80 or 1.15 percent growth, to close at N70.50 per share, while ZENITH BANK closed the top five gainers chart at N16.65 per share, having appreciated by N0.30 or 1.83 per share.
BERGER led the losers midweek with N0.50 or 9.63 percent, closing at N6.10 per share, followed by FLOUR MILL with N0.50 or 2.70 percent decline, to end midweek at N18.00 per share, while ETI, the third on the decliners list dipped by N0.20 or 4.17 percent, ending the day at N4.60 per share.
DANGSUGAR placed fourth on the chart with N0.10 or 0.85 percent decline, to close at N11.60 per share, while CALVERTON closed the top five decliners list at N1.74 per share, following a decline by N0.08 or 4.4 percent.
FIDELITY BANK midweek emerged the most sought after stock, with a total turnover of 37,950,489 million shares worth N67, 224,999.79 million, transacted in 96 deals, followed by MTNN with 27,969,987 million shares, valued at N3,217,773,697.20 billion and posted in 146 deals, while WAPCO, third on the chart polled 23,060,049 million shares valued N250,494,392.60 in 130 deals.
GUARANTY placed fourth on the chart with 18,170,948 million shares, worth N403, 612,225.80 million, and recorded in 278 deals, while ZENITH BANK closed the top active stocks chart with 16,776,367 million shares, worth N276, 416,086.85 million exchanged by investors in 351 deals.
AFRINSURE [MRF] posted the least traded volume of shares on Wednesday with 318 shares, worth N63.60 in 1 deal, followed by AIRTELAFRI with 421 shares, valued N136, 082.70 posted in 11 deals, while SFSREIT pooled 550 shares worth N34, 320.00 recorded in 2 deals.
ACADEMY with 800 shares valued N256.00 in 1 deal, placed fourth on the chart, while NOTORE [BLS], the fifth least transacted stock with 1,100 shares worth N75, 625.00 in 1 deal.
