Capitalisation Dips N45bn On Financial Sector Losses
The equities market value Tuesday dipped further by N45 billion on the back of the losses by the banking sector.
The market value on Monday dipped by N55 billion and the negative trend continued on Tuesday as the NSE All Share-Index and equities market capitalization depressed further by -0.36 percent to 24,114.59 and N12.57 trillion, respectively. Specifically, Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date losses increased to -1.5 percent and -10.2 percent, respectively.
The equities market for the second session of trading Tuesday posted N100 million decline, as the equities market capitalization closed N12,579,595 trillion having opened the week at N12,679,635 trillion.
The equities market had earlier on Monday dipped by N55.175 billion, when equities total value closed at N12,624,460 trillion, while on Tuesday, capitalization depressed further by N44.865 billion, to close at N12,579,595 trillion.
On Tuesday, investors transacted a total volume of 208.20 million shares worth N1.05 billion in 4,174 deals, this was Monday’s data, when 231.23 million shares worth N2, 154.75 billion, exchanged hands in 3,950 deals.
While the total number of deals rose by 5.67 percent to 4,174 deals, the volume of transacted shares declined by -9.96 percent and traded stocks value also dropped by -50.86 percent to N1.05 billion.
Analyzing by sectors, the Consumer Goods index rose by 0.4 percent, Industrial Goods index by +0.3 percent and Insurance index by +0.1 percent posted gains, while the Banking index dipped by -2.8 percent and Oil & Gas index by -0.4 percent declines.
Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was negative by 0.5x, as 15 tickers declined, relative to 8 gainers.
GUARANTY led the losers on Tuesday with N0.70 or 3.18 percent dip, to end the day at N21.30 per share. ZENITH Bank followed with N0.60 or 3.70 percent drop in share price to close at N15.60 per share, while GLAXOSMITH dropped by N0.60 or 3.70 percent, closing at N15.60 per share.
ACCESS closed as the fourth on the decliners chart with N0.20 or 3.17 percent loss in share price, to end the day at N6.10 per share, while AFRIPRUD closed the top five losers chart on Tuesday at N4.07 per share, the following a decline by N0.18 or 4.24 percent.
STERLNBANK emerged as the most active stock with 78,917,069 shares worth N98,648,210.70 million and transacted in 439 deals, followed by UBA with 15,776,635 million shares turnover , worth N96,028,531.00 million and posted in 256 deals, while JAPAUL, the third in activity chart recorded 12,793,243 million shares worth N3,215,788.55 million, transacted in 50 deals.
FBNH closed as the fourth in activity chart with 10,933,254 million shares worth N56,003,847.95 million in 231 deals, while ZENITH BANK closed the top five activity table with 10,644,850 million shares valued N167,105,218.25 million in 622 deals.
UNILEVER recorded the highest gains for the day with N1.20 or 9.64 percent, closing at N13.65 per share, followed by BUACEMENT (BLS) with N0.25 or 0.61 percent rise in equity price, ending the day at N41.45 per share, while JAIZ Bank ranked third on the gainers’ chart with N0.02 or 3.70 percent growth, closing the day at N0.56 per share.
TRANSCORP closed fourth on the gainers’ chart with N0.02 or 3.23 percent rise, to end the day at N0.64 per share, while NEM, closed the top five gainers group at N2.06, having appreciated by N0.01 or 0.49 percent.
AIRTELAFRI topped the list of companies that recorded least turnover with 36 shares valued N12,149.90 in 8 deals, followed by LINKASSURE with 100 shares worth N52.00 in 1 deal, while UNIONDICON [BMR] posted 100 shares worth N990.00 in 1 deal.
SOVRENINS closed as fourth on least volume stocks with 136 shares worth N27.20 in 1 deal, while MORISON closed the top five chart least volume stocks with 951 shares worth N513.54 in 1 deal.
