Equities Market’s Bullish Run Pushes Capitalization N100bn
Gains by Airtel Africa and MTN Nigeria sustain bullish trend in the market bullish and driving the All-Share Index (ASI) to advance by 0.8 percent to 24,330.06 points, representing the biggest gain since 26 June, 2020.
The telecoms sector also helps the equities market’s capitalization to go up N100 billion and pushed the market that opened at N12,58 trillion to close at N12.69 trillion.
With the gains from both AIRTELAFRI with +2.4 per cent, MTNN which by 2.6 per cent, and Tier 1 bank stocks, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date losses moderated to -0.6 per cent and -9.4 per cent, respectively.
Investors on Thursday transacted a total of 207.40 million shares worth N0.98 billion and was transacted in 3,322 deals.
The NSE All share index and market capitalization rose by 0.83 per cent to close at 24,330.26 and N12.69 trillion respectively.
Volume of transacted stocks declined by -0.39 per cent, value dipped by 43.93 per cent to N980 million, while total number of deals also dropped by 8.94 per cent.
For the second successive session, AIRTELAFRI emerged as the most traded stock by value at NGN104.70 million.
Analyzing by sector, the Banking index rose by 1.0 per cent and Insurance index by 0.1 per cent gains, while the Consumer Goods index dipped by 0.5 per cent, and Oil & Gas by -0.3 per cent. The Industrial Goods index closed flat.
Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was positive by 1.1x, as 17 tickers gained, relative to 16 losers.
AIRTELAFRI on Thursday sustained leadership on the gainers chart with N8.00 or 2.35 per cent, to close the day at N348.00 per share, PRESCO followed with N4.20 or 9.28 per cent growth to close at N49.45 per share, while MTNN appreciated by N3.00 or 2.61 per cent, ending the day at N118.00 per share.
CADBURY, fourth on the gainers chart rose by N0.50 or 7.41 per cent, closing trade at N7.25 per share, while GUARANTY closed the top five gainers chart at N22.00, having appreciated by N0.50 or 2.33 per cent.
FLOURMILL led the losers with N0.90 or 5.03 per cent, closing trade at N17.00 per share, followed by UNILEVER with N0.80 or 5.86 per cent, to close trade at N12.85 per share, while ETI closed as the third highest loser with N0.35 or 7.45 per cent, closing at N4.35 per share.
FIDSON closed lower at N2.65 per share, following decline by N0.20 or 7.02 per cent, while NAHCO closed the top five losers chart at N1.98 per share, having depreciated by N0.20 or 9.17 per cent.
STERLNBANK on Thursday continued to top the activity chart with 60,083,622 million shares worth N74, 418,755.00 in 231 deals, followed by FBNH with 20,670,049 million shares, valued N103, 401,279.00 million and posted in 297 deals, while JAPAULOIL placed third with 17,284,299 million shares worth N4,287,153.00 million recorded in 36 deals.
TRANSCORP closed as the fourth on activity chart with turnover of 11,569,066 million shares, worth N7, 002,578.00 posted in 64 deals, while CUSTODIAN closed the top five active stocks chart with 10,006,928 million shares valued N48, 033,254.00 million and traded in 15 deals.
UHOMREIT closed the day as the least traded stock with 50 shares worth N1, 865.00 transacted in 1 deal, followed by BETAGLAS with 150 shares, worth N9, 000.00 polled in 1 deal, while TRIPPLEG closed with 250 shares worth N113.00 recordedin1 deal.
CHAMPION closed as the fourth least traded with 290 shares, worth N263.00 traded in 2 deals, while SEPLAT closed the top five least traded bracket with 714 shares worth N248, 044.00 penned in 6 deals.
