Famous musician Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley was on Friday flown to Abuja by the Nigeria Police to face prosecution for contravening the Federal Government’s restriction order on COVID-19.
InsideBusiness learnt that Fashola was brought into Abuja through Dana Air at 9.00am on Friday.
The Police handed over the musician to the FCT Enforcement Task Force on COVID-19 led by its Chairman, Attah Ikharo, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Fashola was swifty driven by the enforcement team to the Eagle Square where he was dragged before a magistrate judge.
Appearing before Magistrate Idayat Akanni, Fashola pleaded guilty to a four-count charge filed against him by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for partaking in a music concert in Abuja in violation of COVID-19 directives.
Magistrate Akanni handed the musician a fine of N200,000k for violating the COVID-19 protocols issued by the government.
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello, had in June vowed to prosecute Fashola for holding a concern in the territory during the lockdown period.
Marley with members of his band had participated in a concert held on June 13, 2020, at Jabi Lake Mall which drew a tumultuous crowd during the lockdown.
